Holiday Glass by Nan Burke

There is a special, seasonal, glass made by Portland, OR-based Bullseye Glass called “hollyberry glass” from which I make the most popular holiday items I sell at shows and stores.  Bullseye Glass makes this art glass by ladling the molten clear glass onto a steel table, and rolls it out like taffy. While it is still hot, they throw green aventurine flakes and red bits on the sheet, and then cool the sheet in the lehr.  I use every bit of this expensive glass in making these items.  First, I’ll cut the sheets into larger pieces for bowls, dishes, and candle bridges.  The leftovers, I cut up for making my star ornaments.  Any glass left from that gets cast into the handle holders, which I make occasionally.
